Brandon Davies reportedly violated the BYU honor code, a very strict set of guidelines due to the university being owned and operated privately by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as the New York Times reports. The BYU honor code forbids the use of tobacco, alcohol, tea and coffee, as well as gambling, premarital sex, pornography and homosexual behavior among other things.
Brandon Davies, 19, all-star basketball player from Brigham Young University, was suspended from the team earlier this week for violating the BYU honor code. The students from the university wondered what Davies did to violate the code. The mystery is now revealed; Davies is accused of having sex with his girlfriend, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
Although this is a common act among many college students, having premarital sex violates the BYU honor code and has left his future as a pro basketball player unknown. The honor code does not specifically state students are not allowed to engage in sex, for it merely says they must “live a chaste and virtuous life.” The honor code can be seen here.
It can be argued that Davies simply did not know his actions would lead to severe consequences. There are rumors speculating that his girlfriend may be pregnant, but there have been no reports confirming this.
