What is a rangefinder camera and what is the advantages compared to a DSLR camera?
Hearing the word Rangefinder, what comes to mind is a camera "old school" that completely manual, but in reality is not like that. Because since 2004 has introduced the first digital rangefinder camera, the R-D1 made by Epson, and two years later released the Leica M8 digital rangefinder camera, then followed M9.
Physically, the rangefinder camera there are two boxes, which serves as a rangefinder viewfinder, and one to help focus.
Istiah rangefinder itself refers to a focus on the tools contained in the camera. Rangefinder cameras focused search system not through a glass pentaprism like DSLR / SLR, but by bringing together two images (one of the viewfinder, and the other from the lens), the focal length was found.
Excess Rangefinder camera than a DSLR:
- Body more compact and lighter, because it does not use a pentaprism mirror
- Focus more quickly due to the stacking system image, while DSLR / SLR based on feeling.
- Viewfinder brighter
Lack Rangefinder camera than a DSLR:
- Expensive
- The availability of lenses and accessories are not as many DSLR / SLR
- There is no depth of field control button, video recording and face detection as a modern DSLR.
