Acer Inc. Chief Executive Resigned

Acer Inc. chief executive resigned, according to the Taiwanese computer company said on Friday. Quoting the news agency AFP, this step is a manifestation of differing views on the future of the company who are facing slowing demand for PCs (personal computers).

The departure of CEO and President of Acer's Gianfranco Lanci, came after the company trying to expand into the tablet market is going to announce their profits fall in the first quarter of this year.

"Regarding the future development of the company, Lanci different views with the majority of board members, and could not reach consensus following the dialogue for several months,"said Acer in a statement.

"They are different in placing the importance of scale, growth, customer value creation, the addition of brand positioning, and resource allocation and implementation methods,"the company said, mentioning that the board accepted the resignation of Lanci.

Acer leader JT Wang, who will take over temporarily the position Lanci, said the company was determined to be a leader in the market of new mobile devices, including smart phones and tablets.

"We must change our business strategy due to stretch of the PC industry has changed with increasing tablet and some PC operating systems," said Wang.

"We may need to adjust our full year guidance (to the estimated revenues) after completing the structure of our business end of May."
 


Acer, the second largest PC maker in the world, began shipping products in March tablets but face tough competition from an established Apple tablet, iPad. Wang said Acer aims to launch 5-7 million tablets of this year.

The company said earnings dropped their PCs about 10 percent starting March 25 from the fourth quarter last epidemic, due to weaker demand in Western Europe and the United States
