Bank of America is experiencing service issues with its online banking system. Bank customers had reported that the bank's Web site was slow or not working at all Monday, with reports that the site was completely down Tuesday. Although the bank restored service for a brief time Tuesday, the site was down again in the afternoon.
A spokeswoman for the bank told the Wall Street Journal that the site was slow because of routine upgrades made over the weekend, and not because of an attack of any kind.
However, Anonymous, the hacktivist group associated with support of Wikileaks, has been threatening the bank with an attack similar to ones it executed on PayPal and, most recently, HBGary.
HBGary CEO Aaron Barr, who claimed to have identified several members of the group, recently stepped down from his position in response to the attacks.
Anonymous has not taken credit for the attack, though it did send out this tweet:
